Threshfield Toyota’s kick off 2013 ANCC Forest Challenge

Will Midgley sets out on the ANCC 2013 Forest Challenge this weekend, competing in the Riponian Rally, based in Thirsk.  After a great class win in the RAC Rally, winning the class in last year’s Riponian and clinching the overall ANCC 2012 Forest Challenge, Will is hoping for another good result in the Toyota Corolla AE86. The car is attracting an ever increasing fan club amongst rally followers, being a change from the regular ranks of Mark II Escorts, and is a replica of the car that his Father John Midgley won the British Championship in during the 1980s. Will is this time partnered by Paul Slingsby from Ilkley.

Joining Will on the event are the other Threshfield team of Chris and James Slater, who also race a Toyota Corolla AE86. Chris and Jim entered last year, but had a spot of bad luck early in the rally, however with good fortune they will be very competitive and won their class in the second to last outing at the Grizedale Stages in 2011.  Will and Paul are seeded 26 and James and Chris 28, so should be a great competition between them.

Both teams are competing in Round 1 of the Forest Challenge taking in 7 Rallies in total that run through to December, with Riponian totalling 40 stage miles and 90 road miles. This year’s ANCC Stage Championship is being sponsored by Threshfield Garage and Ravenol Oils, who are also Technical Advisors on lubricants for the 2013 British Rally Championship.

Will and Jonathan win class at RAC!

After an epic 3 days and an induction of fire into the toughest UK rally, we managed to finish and by doing so win Class in the RAC Open Rally and finish 4th overall. To say we are chuffed would be an understatement, as had settled for getting a finish in this seriously challenging event, but we held on and finished which our rivals didn’t manage.

On behalf of Will and myself we would like to sincerely the rest of the team being Malcolm, Graham, Brendan, Neil, Paul, Mike, Brian and John. Without each and every one of these guys we would not have finished where we did.

We would also like to thank Malcolm Smithson for spending time with Jonathan preparing him for using maps on the event for navigation, and congratulate him and Bob Bean on their class win and finishing 19th overall in the Ford Lotus Cortina.

Finally we would like to thank Toyota UK Motorsport for following us throughout the event, the Toyota fans who supported us on every stage – just fantastic, and of course the organisers of the RAC Rally who deserve a very big pat on the back.

Thank you all.

MMS enter Toyota Corolla AE86 in the 2012 RAC Rally

Exciting times for MMS as we are preparing the Toyota Corolla AE86 to compete in this years Roger Albert Clark Rally, held over the 23rd to 25th November 2012.

On top of that ther are also 378 road miles to navigate too, so a real challenge for all teams.

There is probably no better rally from a Spectator perspective and full details can be downloaded by visiting http://www.rogeralbertclarkrally.org

Flying at Goodwood FOS

This will be a big test for William Midgley (Driver) and Jonathan Driver (Navigator) who have competed successfully in one day rally’s over the past couple of years, but are both a really up for this and bringing the Toyota Corolla AE86 back to stages where it achieved great success in the 1980’s.

If you would like to be part of our adventure and keep this classic rally car doing what it does best, then have you considered sponsoring the team? We intend to not only enter this years RAC Rally, but also compete in next years fantastic new RAC Championship being open for cars pre – 1987. Both will receive significant regional and Motors TV coverage, plus newspaper, magazine, Internet coverage and of course watched by the thousands of dedicated rally fans..

Feel free to drop an email to contact@midgleymotorsport.com and we’d be happy to hear from you.

Will's Corolla

So were almost ready for the next round of  the ANCC Fuchs Titan Forest Challenge competing in the Tour of Hamsterley Rally this weekend. It’s scrutineering and sound check etc., on Saturday then off at a provisional start time of 10:05 on Sunday morning.
